Yes, employers have to match FICA taxes, and submit a proportion of your pay to the unemployment insurance fund.
I’m not complaining, but the University System of Georgia also took 5% off the top for retirement. But they also generously matched. I’m just glad I didn’t join the Teacher’s Retirement System and had a 401(k).

I agree. We should plan for ourselves. Relying solely on the government is the worst plan anyone should make.
