Around half of Americans have no net worth, so they couldn't have lost anything. Some other number had a bit, but not so much that they could lose $50K. So I guess a lot of very, very rich people lost big numbers and when this was averaged out with people like me who had little to nothing, we came up with the number $50K.

The $50K figure is almost incomprehensible to me, considering what a high percentage of Americans have almost no net worth at all.
It’s an average. A median would be more helpful—to weed out those with a lot of assets. Let’s say that this American lost a lot less!
But who are they? Just the poorest members of society?
