To my amazing readers: Thank you! I’ve been posting on Substack for a year and you’ve given me the gift of opening my post and telling me that you’ve learned something.
In late December I will share my “how I got here” story and have an amazing holiday gift for subscribers only—the inflation chapter of my book, plus some bonus pieces. You’ll have a resource for the information without chugging through all 13 posts!
For newcomers, here’s how to subscribe for free:
I will not be posting a Thursday class this week.I took a trip to St. Lucia, which was shall we say, less than what I had hoped for. More on that in a future post.
I do have a bit to say about immigration, the hot button topic, but more on that later in a sneak peek as my chapter on employment unfurls in the Thursday class.
I worked on a presentation for a conference instead of working on posts. The presentation is about writing for Substack for those who want to “get their geek” on, as my first writing coach, Chad Allen puts it. I’ll let you know how it went in February.
While I’m actively pursuing a return to academia, I want to connect with some old friends at SEDSI. Wait, you thought all my nerdy degrees are in economics? No, that MS is in Decision Sciences with a concentration in Applied Statistics.
My husband married a nerd too.
You’ll find most economists have an extensive statistics background, most in the form of minors as undergraduates or masters degrees in statistics. One of the things I’m changing on my posts is making the statistics I use easier to read. You’ll see that in the gift too.
I’m making plans for next year and for a few stories from Mark, about his life in high-tech start-ups, as this year winds down. He’s got some great stories to tell.
I also have a plan to start adding audio for these posts in the new year. I’m not overfund of my recorded voice, but I hope you’ll see my enthusiasm at work to help you better understand economics.
I also hope to have good news about my book to share later this year. If ever there were a time for some sane economics thinking, it’s now.
For those of you beginning your holiday preparations, whatever they may be, find a few minutes to stop and put your feet up as I did.
As always, thank you for reading. It is much appreciated.
Nikki
Enjoy your week off, Nikki. What wonderful plans you have shared!
